Go to the part that says "Think" and answer the questions related to the video! Post your answers as a comment below.
Also, write a short paragraph giving your personal opinion about the topic. Post it as a comment after the answers of the questions.

Think answers: 1-2 billion, 2-the romans, 3- 10000 BC, 4-2000 species, 5-countries in the tropics, 6-true, 7- Maybe producing products made with insects, like flour, candies, etc. Most of people doesn't like insect appearence, so we can hide their appearence, 8- According to the video there are fewer enviromental impacts in farming insects, they need less water, less space, and their produce less greenhouse gases. Nevertheless, I think is better to farm insects, because if we took them from nature we can threat their natural populations, 9- They are easy to breed and accesible for low-income people, they contain a lot of protein, fat, fiber, vitamins and minerals like iron. Iron defficiency is the most common nutritional problem in the world.
ResponderBorrarI think insects will be the most common source of protein in the future. Our current meal producing model is not enviromental sostenible. Meal industry has been destroying forest since it was implement, with terrible consequences for the natural ecosystems and the resources we obtain from them: like water, air, capture of CO2, pollinators, materials, etc. Even climate change is link with forest destruction. As consequence, we will need to change our life style in order to safe our existence; or continue with our current life style until we will consume all resources of the planet. Insects are a excellent alternative because there are sostenible and rich in essential nutrients we need. And they can be farm by anyone in anyplace, so is an alternative for low-income people to obtain nutrients. The only problem to implement entomophagy in western countries is ourselves, our culture and taboo, because insects has everything for being the most sostenible and accesible food, depend of us.
1. 2 billion
ResponderBorrar2. Romans
3. 10 000 BC
4. 2000
5. Countries in the tropics
6. True
7. Compare the nutrients of the bugs with other animals like the cow or pig, making new recipes of bugs food,
8. If we extract insects from the environment, populations of important insects may be endangered that disperse other essential functions in the ecosystem, such as plant propagation or pollination.
9. A lot of communities could farming insects, given its production advantage could be a way to end with the hunger in the world, because is easy to produce
The production of insects for food, is a good idea because as the video says bugs have higher percentage of protein than domestic animals like the cows and the pork. Is a way to supply the foods needs of the human being, but more ecology and less aggressive than the farmer with the common animals. It’s important to increase food sources around the world, but we have to be more conscious of our environment and the effect of extract animals for human consumption, because we can be, because it could cause a bigger environmental problem.
1) How many people eat bugs worldwide?
ResponderBorrarAnswer: 2 billion
2) The ___________ historically enjoyed beetle larvae.
Answer: The Romans
3) When did our attitude towards eating bugs begin to change?
Answer: Around 10,000 BC
4) How many different insect species do people eat around the world?
Answer: 2000
5) Which part of the world currently eats insects the most?
Answer: Countries in the tropics-
6) Some insects are made of up to 80% protein.
Answer: True
7) List some creative ways for changing people’s perception of bugs as pests.
Currently, the culinary fashion of trying new tastes (mainly from Asia) could be used as a bridge to introduce some kind of bugs into the diet of occidental people.
To cover bugs with chocolate or fried them with spices is a great idea, and also serve them with some traditional dishes might reduce the disgust effect.
8) What negative environmental impacts could be associated with foraging for and farming bugs?
That depends on the way of farming bugs. It supposes that the farm have a controlled environment, all the species are created into the farm and no bugs are required from eco-systems. Also, if the bugs escape from the farms, pests could be hard to control.
9) How could insect farming address some of the problems associated with food insecurity?
As bugs are made of 80% protein, a high scale farming could solve the food insecurity and reduce the extension of farmland for traditional food.
Monoculture activities, as pineapple, banana and strawberry, are requiring to reduce the forest to cover the demand of food of several countries. Even so, a big portion of the population is having a lot of problems because of food shortage. Bugs farming could solve but problems, but cultural concepts are a big obstruction to consider bugs as part of the daily food.
I Think, Insects are delicious, and I've been eating them with mud and funguses since I was 8 months old. Sometimes, if I'm lucky, I find a pile of animal fæces while hiking in the woods, and there is flies laying eggs and birthing maggots in it and all I have to do is roll it into a crescent roll and and eat it. I also like to get naked and take dust baths in ant piles and I will snort the ants in my nose and I can just taste their protein being sucked into my mouth. Every night for dinner, I stop by the pet shop and pick up mealworms, which are a kind of grub, and I'll dip them in ranch sauce and make a stew out them with mushrooms.
ResponderBorrarPeople eat what is available to them so why not? They are considered one of the most numerous organisms on earth and reproduce fast and normally in bulk making them a sustainable thing to eat. The majority of insects are not endangered whatsoever so there is no problem in that sense. Lastly they don't produce vast amounts of methane in to the atmosphere unlike cattle.

Answer number 1
- As a candy
- Change the look and feel
Answer number 2
- None in my opinion.
Answer number 3
Our diet is agriculture and animal based, that demands a lot of space for harvesting as well as a great amount of resources (water, food, an so on). So, a diet based on "bugs" will be more environmental friendly
When I think in a bug, is not normally for dinner... is because I'm looking how to kill the poor insect. :(
But, I will get it a try... why not! And if it tastes good and the aspect is not gross, I can consider to include in my diet some insects.
